Traveling to its third location, Second Nature is coming to Alaska's Anchorage Musuem. Matthew Brandt and Meghann and Riepenhoff are among the 43 featured artists from around the world who have not only pushed technological boundaries, but also developed conceptual approaches to image-making that constitute a disruption to traditional conceptions about the medium of photography.
This transformation, which integrated the widespread use of digital technologies in the early 2000s, coincided with the emergence of the term Anthropocene. Artists used the new tools at their disposal to render a transformed world and developed a new visual language to capture it. In doing so, they created myriad approaches to representing the land, collectively reckoning with what it means to live on Earth in this age.
