The Democratic Republic of the Congo has now debuted their 2026 pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2026. Uniting nine artists from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and its diaspora, the pavilion's installation, Simba Moto! Seize the Fire! Saisis le feu!, embraces the theme of fire. Reflecting both the destructive force fire brings when burning and the transformation fire creates when it is kindled and forged. Aimé Mpane's sculptural work, Le souffle (2026) is included in the pavilion's presentation. Made from matchsticks and exploring the lingering effects of colonial violence, Le souffle contributes a deeply personal and resonant perspective within this broader dialogue.
The Venice Biennale is on view through November 22, 2026.
